Prep 4 Class Blog Week Beginning 22nd June

Although we are almost at the end of the academic year the Prep 4 girls continue to work extremely hard both at home and at school.

My Prep 4 Stars for this week are:  Millie, Alice G and Pearl.

Millie produced a well-written persuasive text supporting the ban on animals in circuses. Also, to celebrate the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, Mille used her artistic talent to draw zongzi, the sticky rice dumplings, which are traditionally eaten at this time. While home-schooling with her sister Mel, the girls have set up a very good routine, having plenty of time for music, schoolwork, drawing and playing outside.

In English this week the girls enjoyed listening to an audio video of the, ‘King of Rome’ by Dave Sudbury as a basis for punctuating speech and then using a storyboard to retell the story. They are also listening to a series of Michael Morpurgo’s Masterclass videos to learn more about how this award-winning author uses life experiences as a starting point for successful story writing.

The girls continue to use MyMaths and Times Table Rock Stars to practise their multiplication tables and this week have been introduced to using the formal written method to calculate larger numbers.

The rainforest project has been a huge hit with the girls using their research skills to produce some very impressive results. Alice I and Alice G collaborated to learn about capuchin monkeys which are known as the most intelligent. They discovered the monkeys are found in many rainforests and jungle locations from Central America all the way down to northern Argentina in South America. Next, they researched the Amazon river dolphins before making one out of Fimo Clay.

Pearl has been spending some time in school but also managed to meet up for a morning walk with Eva. She managed to watch the Michael Morpurgo video in the car, then on her return she quickly completed all her English and maths. Pearl’s article about her trip to Borneo where she saw orangutans together with many other exotic animals is fascinating. In addition to working on her project work in the afternoon, Pearl also finished the day by watching the movie Rio.  What a fabulous idea!
