3PREAMBLEInthetenyearsorsosincethefirstlayLoretoheadwasappointedinEnglandtherehasbeenmuchreflectionintheInstituteandinourschoolsandcollegeonthedistinctivespiritthatanimatesoureducationalcommunities.MuchofthisreflectionhasfocusedonhowourLoretoheritagecanbecarriedforwardintoaverydifferentfuture.ThoughweareveryproudofourinheritancewehaveastrongconvictionthatourLoretoidentityisnotsomethingstaticthatislockedinthepastbutadynamicrealitythatrequiresustorespondcreativelytotheneedsofthetime.WegladlytaketoheartthewordsofPopeBenedictXVItothepeopleofEnglandin2010whenrememberingtheVenerableBedehesaidx1cBedeunderstoodboththeimportanceoffidelitytothewordofGodastransmittedbytheapostolictraditionandtheneedforcreativeopennesstonewdevelopmentsandtothedemandsofasoundimplantationoftheGospelincontemporarylanguageandculture.x1dItisstrikinghowtheVenerableMaryWardx1fslifecontinuestobeaninspirationtoLoretoeducatorsofthe21stcenturyandthishasfoundexpressioninmanykeydocumentsthattheLoretoEnglishEducationNetworkLEENhasproducedoverthelastfewyears.Ourcommonmissionstatementpublishedin2007whichthisdocumentreplacespledgedthatx1ewithinourschoolsandcollegethestoryofMaryWardwillbere-interpretedtoandbyeachnewgeneration.x1fThereisaverykeensenseofourhistoryintheseestablishmentsandwehopethatthereferencestoourfoundationthroughoutthispublicationwillhelptosupportthatstatementx1fsaspirationthatMaryWardx1fsx1evisionandvalueswillfindexpressionintheexperienceofferedtoandshapedbyourstudentsparentsstaffandgovernors.x1fOurintentioninproducingthisdocumenthasbeentodefineourvisionandcorevaluesandillustratehowthesemightshapetheguidingprinciplesandkeycharacteristicsofourschoolsandcollegeintheearlypartofthe21stcentury.Whatfollowsispartofthehandingonofthestorysothateachgenerationcantellitafresh.Wearestorytellersnotofafinishedstorybutonewhichwehopethereaderwilladdtoandre-interpretsothatsomethingnewisalwaysbeingbornforthegreaterhonourandgloryofGod.VISIONVALUESANDPHILOSOPHY
